President Jacob Zuma of South Africa has?approved new investigation into the plane crash that killed Mozambican President, Samora Machel.
Mr Paul Ramaloko, Spokesman of the South African criminal investigation agency known as `Hawks’ confirmed on Wednesday in Johannesburg that new investigation on the crash had been opened.
“We started the investigation recently. We don’t want to say if we have leads or anything else. We just want to say we have a team that?is investigating the crash,’’ Ramaloko said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the crash took place in October 1986 in the mountains of Mariepskop, where South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland converge.
Machel and 33 others were travelling from Zambia to Mozambique when the Soviet Tupolev plane went down.
It would be recalled that in 1987, South Africa was exonerated of any involvement in the crash.
Machel was Mozambique’s founding President after the country's independence from Portugal in 1975. (NAN)
