73-Yr-Old Man Eyes Varsity Education

A 73-year-old man and student of adult literacy class, Pa Yekini Adeyemo, has just completed the first phase of his quest for literacy. With the knowledge he has acquired, he still fills a vacuum. Consequently, he has resolved to reach the climax: A university degree if God spares his life.

Pa Adeyemo‘s passion for education was fired by the exposure he got from the adult literacy class organised by Laudable Support Initiatives in Lagos. Though the oldest of all the graduating students, he emerged the star of the class.?

Adeyemo told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY that “looking for biro, pencil, eraser daily to do my homework is not a problem at all. I was never forced to enrol in the adult literacy class but the passion for education made me to decide to register for the programme. If God spares my life I will continue to the university to acquire a degree.

“I have been dreaming of having the opportunity to read and write as far back as 1940s. Although it is better to learn in the early stage of one’s life-time, I’m better off now because I can read and write. My children and grandchildren earlier discouraged me from enrolling in the programme but at the end, they succumbed to my desire.”

He recalled that his instructor once seized his handset for forgetting to switch it off during a class session and also dozed off in class which made the instructor to advise him not to eat heavy food when coming to the class.
