APGA Tasks Gov.Orji On Local Council Polls

APGA in Abia on Monday, urged Gov. Theodore Orji to set in motion processes that would facilitate smooth conduct of local government elections in the state.

The appeal was contained in a statement signed by Chief Chris Uche, APGA Deputy National Chairman, South East; Prince Ukaegbu and Chief Sunday Evuru, the Abia APGA chairman and secretary, respectively.

They said the continued administration of local government councils in the state by the Transition Committee Chairmen appointed by the executive arm of government negated the spirit of participatory democracy.

Gov. Orji had, during an interactive session with the media four months ago, said that council elections would hold in the state next January.

The Abia State House of Assembly declared recently that Abia was not prepared for such polls.

?Abia’s APGA also passed a vote of confidence in the Chief Victor Umeh-led national leadership of the party.

It said that the party was against the unwarranted media attacks by some members of the party against Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo.

“The party in Abia condemns in totality the unwarranted comical outbursts against Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo.

The statement urged governors in APGA administered states to do more to advance the pedigree of the party, and to enable the party to make incursions into other states. (NAN)
