Alhaji Nazifi Bello of the PDP has won Saturday’s by-election in Mashi Constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly.
The by-election followed the death of the member representing the constituency, Alhaji Surajo Mashi, on Dec.12, 2011.
The Returning Officer, Mallam Usman Abdullahi, of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Katsina, who announced the result in Mashi, said Bello scored 27,031 votes to beat CPC’s Alhaji Hussaini Yau, who polled 3,177 votes.
Abdullahi, therefore, declared and returned Bello as duly elected.
He also said the election was free, fair and conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act.
The only two political parties participated in the by-election.
