Senate President David Mark has urged Nigerians to be their brothers’ keeper at all times because they all share a common destiny despite ethnic and religious differences.
Mark, who stated this in a goodwill message to Muslim faithful to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr, noted that peaceful co-existence among Nigerians was an ingredient for development.
The goodwill message was signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja on Friday.
He said that the security challenge facing the nation was a wakeup call for Nigerians to live more in harmony.
“As a nation, we have passed through travails during the civil strife of the past and triumphed.
“This current security challenge is another phase in our political history. We must all unite to end it and move forward,” the Senate President, said.
Mark described the steadfastness of the Muslim faithful for completing the one month fasting and prayers as their sacrifice to strengthen the country’s unity and promote peaceful co-existence.
In related development, the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, urged the Muslim Ummah to offer prayers for the success of the constitution review project toward the peace, security, and prosperity of the nation.
This is contained in his goodwill message to the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitri, marking the end of the Ramadan fasting.
Ekweremadu called on the Muslim Ummah to be guided by the lessons and spirituality garnered during the holy month of Ramadan.
He noted that the restoration of enduring peace and security remained the greatest challenge facing every Nigerian, irrespective of his or her religion.
He explained that the ongoing constitution amendment presented Nigerians with the opportunity to address the nation’s integration challenges, which created ethno-religious crises and other internal security challenge.
Ekweremadu congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and urged all Nigerians to contribute to the constitution amendment process. (NAN)
