PDP Chieftain Appeals For Violence Free Poll In Edo

As campaign for Edo council poll gathers momentum, an official of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Martins Sado, on Wednesday appealed to politicians to abide by the rules.

Sado, who is also the Vice Chairmanship candidate for Etsako East Local Government election slated for April 20, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Okpella.

He said it was only through the process that election violence and rancour would be avoided.

?“If violence ensued in the course of seeking political power; it is the people whom you are expected to provide good governance that suffer.

“So, we (politicians) must do all that we can to avoid violence in order to truly protect those whose interests we claim to protect.”

“Politics of do-or-die syndrome had offered no good rather it had brought bad omen for the country.

“This has not only set us back as a nation, it is also responsible for the underdevelopment that we see across the country.

“If we are to progress as a people and country, the people must be given free hand to elect those to govern them.”

Sado appealed to the state government to provide a level playing field for all the participating political parties, adding that the people’s interest should be paramount.

He expressed the hope that the election would be devoid of any form of manipulation and undue influence.
