At least five people died in the early hours of Tuesday in an auto crash that occurred along the Akure/Ilesha expressway.

The accident which involved a Mercedez-Benz truck
with registration number XCC739RSH and a Nissan Sunny commercial
vehicle with number AE341BKN occurred around 6 o’clock in the morning.
Eye witnesses said that the Mercedez truck which was heading towards
Akure colided head on with the commercial vehicle which was moving
towards Ilesha at Ilara Mokin area of Igbara-Oke Local Government.

Witnesses said the foggy weather at that time was
responsible as it affected the visibility of the drivers. In the
process the commercial vehicle was said to have ran into the on-coming
truck while trying to overtake another vehicle.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety
Corps (FRSC), Ondo State, John Meheux confirmed the incident, noting
that the auto crash left the only surviving person critically injured.

The FRSC boss said the corpses of the dead persons
have been deposited at the Akure General Hospital by the FRSC rescue
team while the injured person is receiving treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Mr Meheux has asked motorists to be
careful while driving in the foggy weather which affects visibility. He
therefore encouraged drivers to always put on their headlights for
other road users to see them while driving under such weather
conditions.
