Lawmaker backs killing of miscreants

The member
representing Anambra West in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mike
Ofor has warned that anybody caught harassing contractors in the local
government will be dealt with. Mr Offor said this yesterday at Aguleri,
a community in Anambra West local council while meeting with
traditional rulers from the area. He said he will support the killing
of any member of his constituency who hinders the work of contractors
handling road construction in the area.

Mr Offor was
unhappy with some people in the area who he claimed engaged in sending
threatening text messages to contractors and making monetary demands
rather than commending the governor for bringing development to their
domain.

“I’m ashamed and
all sons of the local government should be ashamed that after Governor
Peter Obi has awarded the Umuezeanam-Nmiata road and persuaded the
federal government through countless letters and visits to Abuja that
resulted in the award of the Umuezeanam-Kogi road, what some senseless
miscreants only did was to disturb the contractors,” Mr Offor said.

“The governor
behaves towards our local government as if he was previously from our
place before he reincarnated as an Agulu man, by doing for us what
nobody has done before. In spite of the heavy development of the area
in the form of roads, hospitals, rehabilitation and building of
schools, among others, he remains the only governor since Anambra State
was created to have visited the area not once, by countless times. Is
disturbing contractors the way to repay him for his goodness to us,” he
asked.

The Anglican Bishop of Mbamili, Henry Okeke, Sylvester Nonso, Igwe
of Ifite-Anam and others present at the meeting agreed with Mr Offor
and apologised to the governor while promising that the problem will be
addressed henceforth. They appealed to parents in the area to caution
their children.
