The People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has said that the defection of
four of its members in the state House of Assembly to the ruling Action
Congress of Nigeria (ACN) will have no effect on the party.

Describing the
development as “good riddance for bad rubbish,” the party in a
statement by its Director of Publicity, Adeolu Adeyemo said the PDP in
Osun State remains resolute despite the defection of the Lawmakers.

The leadership of
the ACN in the state has however described the defection of the PDP
lawmakers to the party as a plus to the ruling party in the state. The
State Chairman of the party, Adelowo Adebiyi said the four lawmakers
made the right decision which will enhance the development of the
state. With the defection of the lawmakers, the ruling ACN
representation in the state House of Assembly has risen from 13 to 17,
thereby becoming the majority in the house.

The lawmakers who
switched to the ACN are: Gbadebo Oyejide, representing Isokan/Irewole;
Femi Farounbi, representing Ayedaade; Abiodun Idowu, representing
Ifedayo and Akanmu Ogundeji, representing Boripe/Boluwaduro.

The four lawmakers
had on Tuesday submitted their letter of notification to defect to the
ACN to the Osun State House of Assembly. The Speaker of the House,
Adejare Bello who acknowledged the receipt of the notification letter
of the lawmakers, assured the lawmakers that the leadership of the
house will continue to carry all members along in the scheme of things.

The Speaker who
spoke on the floor of the house during the plenary yesterday said the
defection of the lawmakers will not cause division in the House of
Assembly, but instead, it will further unite the house more than ever
before.

Since the ACN took over the government of Osun State from the PDP
after its victory at the Appeal Court, many members of the PDP have
continued to defect to the ruling party
