WHETHER REPORT: Masta T

The Player

Oluwatobi Ayoade is a senior secondary
school student of Ibadan International School in Ogun State. He is
combining school with music making, he goes with the moniker, Masta T
(MT for short). The 14 year old rap artist said it has always been
music for him, “I have always loved music since I was old enough to
talk and listen attentively”.

The History

Growing up, Masta T enjoyed his
mother’s singing and this ignited his love for music, “My mom always
sang to me and I loved the sound”. Moving on, he discovered his
interest was in rhyming, which eventually swerved him to rapping. “I
loved rhyming. I used to write a word and think of all the words that
rhymes with it”. Later on, the singer was encouraged by his dad to pen
down his rhymes, because of his ability to rhyme almost all words.
Shortly after, he transformed his rhymes to rap lines, an inspiration
he said he got from watching television, “listening to music on
television made me understand that I could transform my poems into
fresh rap lines,” he said. Although his interest cuts across playing
football, swimming, reading, and dancing, he affirms that music remains his first choice.

On combining school and music, the
singer said it has not been easy but he intends juggling both.
“Sometimes I just want to rush out of the class into the studio.
Sometimes, all that is on my mind is the beat that I’m supposed to be
writing on. But I know the importance of education, so I give both,
equal attention’’.

The Inspiration

Masta T gets inspired by American
rapper, actor and record producer, Eminem. “Great rappers such as
Eminem have really made rapping fun and very entertaining thing for me.
I want to follow in their footsteps and put Nigeria on the Hip-Hop map
of the world.”

Tonite’ has beats that could get you on your feet. At some point, he
sounded lot matured than a 14 year old and he delivered intelligent rap
lines with inclusion of Yoruba lines.
