A mob in Keffi
Local Government Area of Nasarawa State yesterday invaded the residence
of the sacked chairman of the council, Mohammed Idris, over the outcome
of last Saturday’s presidential election in the state.

The angry
protesters, who broke into the house located on Abdullahi Maigari
Street at about 3:30am in the early hours of Wednesday, overpowered the
security officer on duty. They then attempted to set the house on fire
with its occupants before concerned neighbours, raising an alarm,
trooped out to stop them. The mob had however succeeded in burning down
a new Mitsubishi jeep belonging to Mr Idris.

“They were chanting
anti-PDP (People’s Democratic Party) slogans,” an eyewitness neighbour,
who refused to be named, told NEXT. “But they did not invade the whole
area. Their aim was to capture Idris’ house. They attempted burning it
down before concerned neighbours in their hundreds showed up and
overpowered them,” he added.

According to him,
“We could not save his vehicle because they had already set it ablaze.
They were trying to transfer the fire to the building before the crowd
that came to rescue the situation overpowered them.”

Mr Idris said he called the police. “But before the police could get to the scene they (the protesters) had already left.”

The police public relations officer in the state, Richard Akoji,
refused to comment on the matter since, according to him, his office
had not received information on the incident.
