Former minister of the Federal Capital Territory malam Nasir el-Ruffai was this morning, arrested by the State Security Service (SSS).
He was picked up as he landed aboard British Airways flight from London where he presented a lecture at an event held by Chatham House.
He had alerted followers to his alert via twitter at about 8.40am. he was taken to the Yellow House headquarters of the SSS to meet with the director general Mr. Ita Ekpeyong. At that point the former minister told his twitter followers he could no longer communicate with them as his phones' batteries had run down.
el-Ruffai has been very critical of the conduct of the 2011 elections and the policies of the Jonathan government. However,?It's not yet clear why he was arrested.
