The crisis-ridden Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State yesterday in Ibadan announced the expulsion of senators Lekan Balogun, Teslim Folarin and six other chieftains of the party for anti-party activities which led to the dismal performance of the party during the April elections.
But Senator Balogun, the leader of anti-Alao Akala coalition has described the announcement as a huge joke and outright lawlessness typical of the factional group.
Former governor of Oyo State, Adebayor Alao Akala, declared that he and his group had learnt their lessons from the misfortune of the party during the elections and added that those expelled were still free to come back if they showed remorse.
The communiqué prepared after the meeting, read by Barister Moronkola Thomas, said that a 13-man committee had been set up to reconcile the aggrieved party members.
Other party chieftains expelled are Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, Alhaji Afeez Gbolarumi, Mr. Gbenga Babalola and Alhaji Abass Olopoeniyan.
Reacting to his expulsion and that of his colleagues, Senator Balogun said: “It is a huge joke; arrant lawlessness though typical of them .There is a lot left in the democratic arsenal to deal with these unthinking , crude politicians.’
‘’Firstly, the exco that convened the meeting is illegal and unknown to law. Secondly we all consciously worked for Jonathan’s victory and the results showed,” Balogun said.
He went on to query whether it was wrong to “reject tyranny and anti-party people candidates at the polls,” and added that the matter of whether or not PDP had any lawful candidate in the last election in Oyo State was still in court.
