Judge Nabbed For Demanding, Accepting Bribe

For demanding and accepting bribe, operatives of the ICPC have arrested a Magistrate Court Judge in Enugu, Judge Joseph Sunday Edeh of the Enugu North Local Government Council Magistrate Court.

Edeh was brought to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, weekend for interrogation following a sting operation which was carried out as a result of a petition from a citizen who is standing as a surety for two suspects in the Magistrate `s jurisdiction.

The petitioner alleged that after granting bail to the two suspects, the judge demanded the sum of N500,000 as “settlement”.

An initial sum of N100,000 was said to have been paid to the Judge`s account, in addition to another payment of N50,000 cash which he collected from the Surety.
CRIME FILE gathered that luck ran out of Judge as he insisted in getting the balance N350,000 as agreed with the victim who unknown to him has reported the matter to the ICPC following continued harassment and intimidation from the Judge.

The Commission reportedly dispatched some operatives with marked currency notes to the tone of N50,000 which the Magistrate accepted leading to his arrest.
Investigation, the ICPC said, were on-going into the matter and the Judge would be charged to court on completion of investigation.
