Ramadan: Preachers Charged Against Controversial Statements

Islamic preachers in Yobe State have been charged to avoid making controversial statements in the course of interpreting the holy Qur’an.

The state’s newly appointed Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Ibrahim Jauro Gwio Kura, gave the charge at a meeting with heads of security agencies and Islamic preachers on the modalities to successful Ramadan activities which took place at the Islamic Centre, Damaturu. He also called on the preachers to preach the gospel of peace and harmonious co-existence among their followers. Also speaking at the occasion, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alh. Bukar Modu Jumbam, directed the chairman,

local government Sharia committee, to liaise with the chairman of sanitation committee to enlighten the people on the importance of planting trees as their religious duties. Also at the meeting were officers of PPRINN who advised the scholars to preach on the need for more female personnel in hospitals, the rights of children, parents and mutual understanding with health workers and members of the communities. Islamic scholars were also urged to sensitize their followers on the need to encourage more women to take to the medical profession in other to fill the gap in the national requirement of the state.

Also speaking at the occasion was the state commissioner of police, Alh. S. O. Lawal who emphasized that the duty of Islamic preachers is to guide people to the course of peace as no religion teaches violence.?
