The Imo Rescue initiative of the Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, doled out 110,000 litres of kerosene to the people of the state, free.
Speaking at the event held at the Grasshopper International Stadium, Owerri, Okorocha described the gesture as “one of the democratic dividends” he promised the people of the state, and added that his government had embarked on many people-oriented programmes to ensure job creation, economic growth and upliftment of the peoples’ living standard.
Governor Okorocha thanked the people of Imo for the mandate they gave him to serve them and declared that his government would use it judiciously to ensure equality, peace and progress.
He thanked President Jonathan and the NNPC for initiating the programme that has alleviated the poverty and suffering which people undergo in search of fuel by-products, and pointed out that the federal ministry of petroleum and Capital Oil Nigeria Plc. have played major roles in ensuring the success of the programme.
Earlier, the senior special assistant to the governor on special duties, Mr. Chiadi Sunny, described the kerosene exercise as the “first of its kind in the state”, and pointed out that it is a promise fulfilled.
Mr. Chiadi disclosed that the state government had concluded arrangements to ditribute the kerosene in batches and stated that the five tanker loads of kerosene was the first free batch and pointed out that subsequent batches will be distributed amongst the 27 local government areas of the state.
The chairman and chief executive of Capital Oil, Sir. Ifeany Uba, also said that the programme was sustainable because five oil companies in the nation were producers of the products.
