Palmwine Tapper, 73, Killed In Delta

A 73-year old palm wine tapper identified as John Owakwe has been reported murdered in Egbokiba Village, Idumugbo, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State by unknown assailants.

Family sources told LEADERSHIP yesterday at Agbor that Owakwe left home last Wednesday at about 4pm with the intention of tapping his palm wine but never returned, prompting a search party for him.

Leadership further gathered that the search party later discovered his corpse abandoned on a farm road allegedly murdered by unknown persons with machete cuts, while a bag full of fresh cobs of maize laid beside him.

His eldest son, Ikechukwu Owakwe however told newsmen in Agbor yesterday that the incident had been reported to the police in Owa-oyibu Police Station who arranged and removed the corpse to Anioma Hospital Mortuary.

Police Spokesman in the state, ASP Charles Muka confirmed the incident and added that the police have arrested one Nwachukwu as part of investigation into the gruesome murder.
