Federal Government yesterday expressed its optimism that the recommendations by the Presidential committee on the Security Challenges in North-east would address the Boko Haram matter satisfactorily.
Speaking shortly after the eight-man committee submitted its interim report on their findings in his office, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Ayim said considering the peculiarity of security of lives of property of Nigerians, the committee was granted additional two weeks to submit its substantive report on the matter.
He added that, “it is important that Government take the security of lives and property in the country seriously. It is also important that whoever is aggrieved should also submit his grievances through the appropriate channels. Due to the importance of the committee, government has accepted your request for additional two weeks so that the committee can submit a detail report on the matter. This interim report will remain secret until the final report is submitted. Then we can release it to the public.”
The chairman of the committee, Ambassador Usman Gaji Galtimari said that the committee met with security agencies, and collected materials that were included in the interim report.
He thanked the government for the additional two weeks and added that, “the two weeks would be enough to submit a final report.
It would be recalled that the federal government on August 2, 2011 set up an eight-man committee to resolve the security situation in the North-east zone of the country.
The committee’s terms of reference, among others, includes reviewing all the issues of security challenges in the Zone and proffering solution/recommendations which would bring a speedy resolution of the crisis.
