Amy Winehouse didn’t die of drug overdose, it has been revealed.
The finding — relayed yesterday to dad Mitch — follows weeks of speculation over the 27-year-old singer's final hours.
And Mitch, 60, wept as he said he was pleased to now be able to “set the record straight”.
The findings were presented to Mitch and Amy's mother Janis, 56, by St Pancras coroner's office, North London, after weeks of wild speculation surrounding their daughter's final hours.
Some alcohol was found in the body of Amy, who had been secretly engaged to film director Reg Traviss. But the cause of death will not be announced until the inquest verdict is unveiled on October 26.
Mitch told The Sun: “This doesn't make me feel the loss of my daughter any less, but we are pleased to be able to set the record straight to a certain extent.
Reg has said that the person that she has been painted as in some quarters was just so far away from the Amy he knew. “Some of the stories of her last few days were just not how they led their life together.”
Tuesday night, a Winehouse family spokesman said: “Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death.
“Results indicate that alcohol was present, but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death. The family would like to thank the police and coroner for their continuing thorough investigations, and for keeping them informed throughout the process. They await the outcome of the inquest.”
Back to Black singer Amy, 27, who had battled drug addiction, was found dead last month at her home in North London's Camden Square.
Cops feared she may have been dead for six hours before she was discovered in her bed.
Mitch, who has been busy setting up a charitable foundation in his daughter's name, had insisted she was clean of Class A drugs in the period leading up to her death.
Anguished Reg, 35, whose engagement to the star was revealed by The Sun this month, also said she had finally turned a corner in her life and had beaten her drug demons.
A source close to the family said: “The report is the hardest thing Mitch has ever had to read. The family had been upset at some of the speculation about the circumstances surrounding her death and at people coming forward claiming to know whathappened who clearly did not.
“They wanted to end rumours about drugs. Mitch made it clear at the funeral how he thought it happened — and these results begin to back that up.”
The Sunreported that Amy had been drinking heavily at goddaughter Dionne Bromfield's gig at the iTunes Festival only 72 hours before she died on Saturday, July 23.
Her family now faces another anxious wait until the end of the inquest to discover the formal cause of death. Amy's loved ones still believe she was killed by a seizure. The star had suffered a series of scares in the months leading up to her death.?
