Jonathan Approves Musdapher’s Appointment As CJN

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday confirmed Justice Dahiru Musdapher as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Musdapher, who has barely eight months to spend in office before attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70, would be sworn by president as the fourteenth Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) on Monday September 26 at 10:00am at the State House.

The CJNs before him include, the Justices John Verity (1946-54), Sir John Foster Sutton (1954-58), Sir Adetokunbo Ademola, (1958-71),? (Dr) Teslim O. Ellas, NNMA,? (1972-75),? Sir Darnley Alexander, (1975-79), Atandra Fatai Williams (1979-83), C.S Sowemimo (1983-85), Ayo G, Irikefe (1985-87), Mohammed Bello (1988-95), Mohammed Lawal Uwais (1995-06), S.M.S. Belgore (2006-07), Idris Kutigi (2007-09) and Aloysius Katsina-Alu (2009-11)

In a press release yesterday signed by the Supreme Court Chief Registrar, Mr. Sunday Olorundaliursi, he said that ‘’the president acting on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC) and confirmation by the Senate has approved the appointment of Musdapher as the CJN.’’

The Senate had Tuesday screened and confirmed Musdapher as the CJN following his appointment earlier as acting CJN and his recommendation to the Senate for confirmation as substantive CJN.
