Shell Nigeria Exploration Company is to donate an ICT Centre to the University of Abuja as part of its sustainable development programme in Nigerian universities.
This was disclosed by the business development manager of the oil giant, Dr Chidi Chukwyeke, when he visited the vice chancellor, Prof, Joseph Adelabu in his office.
He disclosed that the centre would be a stand-alone project completely financed by the company with the necessary facilities to sustain it. Dr. Chukwyeke said the ICT Centre would be an outfit fully furnished and equipped with necessary accessories to facilitate e-learning by students of the university.

He said contractors would be mobilised to the site in the next six weeks, adding that the centre is expected to be commissioned in February 2012.
He expressed happiness at the progress of work at the university’s main campus and commended the vice chancellor for spear-heading the development effort. He said the ICT Centre would complement the VC’s drive to improve teaching facilities in the university.

In his response, Prof. ?Adelabu commended the company for selecting the University for such a Worthy project and assured that its contributions would go a long way in complementing the efforts of the management to upgrade facilities of the institution.
In the same vein, as part of its social responsibility to schools, the sum of one million naira has been awarded to students of the university by ETISALAT. It was disclosed that a total of ten students, five each from 200 and 300 levels of ?undergraduate programmes benefitted from the award with each student receiving 100,000 while the university was also awarded 100,000.

The students were drawn from the faculty of management sciences, and the departments of computer science, electrical and electronic engineering. They were selected on merit based on their performance in their cumulative grade point average, CGPA.
