A Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Gabriel Giwa-Amu, has said that since Nigeria gained independence, she has been unfortunate in regards to good and effective leadership.
In a statement to our correspondent yesterday, the lawyer described as unfortunate, the situation of the country adding that at 51, Nigeria had nothing to show.

He said, “The leaders we have had so far end up catering for their personal interests only. It is very sad that our judiciary has been incapacitated and has virtually collapsed. The integrity of the nation’s judiciary is at stake and judgment is now based on shenanigans of a legal system”, he said.?
Giwa-Amu accused President Goodluck Jonathan of not being proactive in decision making.

“So far, we have reproduced leaders with selfish interests and those who pretend to be good leaders are not,” he lamented.
The human rights lawyer affirmed that he was disappointed in the recent comments by President Jonathan, especially where he said he is not an army general.

“We have a president, who came out to tell Nigerians that he is not a field marshal, this is very sad.” He stressed that it was possible that between now and 10 years from now; the country might experience a bloody government where heads would roll.
Giwa-Amu said Nigerians should not expect any magic from the president because he is not Nebuchadnezzar as mentioned in his statement.

“Unfornately we don’t have a robust National Assembly that is proactive because the president does not need to commit an offence before he is impeached; if he fails to act, that is enough reason to impeach him,” he said.
