TY Danjuma Foundation Launches Taraba Community Fund

In a bid to alleviate poverty and address social challenges in Taraba State, the TY Danjuma Foundation has launched the Taraba Community Fund in Jalingo, the state capital.

The foundation has also given out 10 grants to community-based organisations that submitted creative proposals so as to help foster a good living condition for the citizenry.

Explaining the development in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, the foundation said the fund was disbursed to stimulate local solutions to the poverty experienced in the state.

Presenting the grants, the founder of the foundation, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), urged the organisations to “judiciously use the funds for the stated purposes and create a legacy of success where the impact of the fund will be visible in the target communities”.

Also on the occasion, the executive director of the foundation, Ms. Thelma Ekiyor, said Taraba State would feel the impact of the foundation despite the fact that it was working across the country. She added that the community fund was another sign that the foundation was committed to the state after years of varied interventions, promising that capacity building of non-governmental organisations and CBOS would remain a priority.

According to the foundation, it? intends to implement projects in the fund’s priority areas of community awareness initiatives on health, promotion of literacy, improving girl-child education, youth skills training and development, small business loans and training, and support to the market women’s association.
