The Joy Of Freedom In Christ

Psalms 102:18-22; 116:16

The word ‘freedom’ is generic. It can be experienced in personal, family, community, national or any other aspect of life. The Lord is calling everyone to a celebration of freedom, redemption, liberty, deliverance, dominion and great possibilities. To partake in this celebration, God seeks to bless you in a special way because you are special in His sight, a candidate for the enjoyment of His grace, love, mercy and freedom. If you are bound, you can enjoy freedom in Christ as He will “hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death” to bring praise to His holy name.? When the Lord thus sets free from the hold of sin and Satan, then there will be the joy of freedom in Christ.

1. The Scripture That Sets Us Free

John 8:32; Isaiah 5:13; Joshua 1:8; Psalms 1:1-3; 119:11; Matthew 8:5-8.

Many people desire to be set free from bondage to sin and Satan but do not have the truth of the word of God. Yet, it is truth they need to know and allow to effect freedom in their lives. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. The truth of scripture has power to destroy the work of the devil and release the recipient into the blessings of God. Ignorance binds, ties and destroys. Ignorance of the promise and plan of God, ignorance of the price that Christ paid at Calvary for our freedom keeps some people in bondage.

“Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.” While ignorance binds, the knowledge of the truth of Christ’s atonement and provision for freedom for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord liberates. Not knowing enough about God, His power and provision for their complete deliverance, ten of the twelve spies Moses sent out to view the Promised Land saw the giants and reported that it was impossible to inherit it.

Comparing themselves with the giants, they rated themselves as grasshoppers. Many believers still make this same mistake today: they compare themselves with unbelievers. But the secret of victory and knowledge in Christ is to compare your enemies with God, not yourself. Joshua and Caleb had this knowledge of the truth of scripture that sets free. When Joshua and Caleb compared the giants with the Almighty God, they discovered He was greater and that they would be able to possess the land. God is greater than sickness, problem and the bondage in your life. He will set you free. Whatever the problem may be, knowledge and faith in the ability of God will bring solution.

2. The Son That Sets Us Free

John 8:36, 3-11; 5:2-9; Mark 5:2-13; 7:37; Luke 13:11-13, 16; Acts 10:38.

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” Christ, the living Word works with the written word to set us free. Jesus, the Son of God, sets free from sin, sickness and satanic attack. There is freedom, healing and deliverance in the name of Christ. The testimony concerning His work of salvation, healing, deliverance and freedom from satanic attacks is “He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak”. He has power and is willing to replicate these miracles in the life of everyone who come to Him.

“And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.” Her sickness originated from Satan; it was an eighteen-year long oppression. But Jesus set her free. Jesus knows and sees the problem that everyone has. He is ready to set you free because He is the same yesterday, and today, and forever. What He did before, He is still able to do today.

3. The Spirit That Keeps Us Free

Romans 8:2; Luke 4:14, 18-21; Matthew 12:28; Romans 8:11; Mark 16:15-18; Matthew 18:18,19.

Set free from sin, sickness and demonic oppression by the Scripture and the Son, the Spirit of life keeps us free. “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of life. He terminates the operation and torments of the spirits of death, suicide and bondage in the life of everyone who comes to God. He sets free from the law of sin and death. When the scripture becomes a reality in your heart and the Son becomes your Saviour, Healer and Deliverer, then the

Spirit of God will also confirm it. Christ declared, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord”. He was filled, led and empowered by the Spirit of God to perform miracles. And the power of the Spirit of God is everywhere to grant everyone freedom, jubilee. Christ affirmed that He cast out devils by the power of the Spirit of God.

Both the Son and the Spirit do the work together. The Spirit of life is powerful and mighty; He raised Christ from death to life. He also quickens, revives and transforms everyone in whom He dwells. The Lord commands us to preach the good news in every country, nation and continent so that everyone can enjoy freedom from sin, sickness and Satan. Everyone who believes the truth of Scripture and receives the Son of God as Saviour will be set free, and kept free by the Spirit of God.
