FCTA To Introduce New Parking Policy

In order to reduce the perennial traffic congestion experienced in the city centre, especially during working days, the Transportation Secretariat is to introduce parking meter services in the federal capital city.

The director, Public Transportation Department, Engr. Kola Yahaya Garba, who stated this during the demonstration of the parking systems in Abuja yesterday, said that with the new policy, parking within the metropolis will no longer be free.

Engr. Unuogwu said that a parking system is a critical component of traffic management for any central business district of a developed society, adding that a good parking strategy will improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance safety and economic development.

He said the parking policy which will ensure that congestion within the city is reduced to the barest minimum, guarantee safer roads for motorists and pedestrians and provide 6,000 jobs for FCT unemployed youths.
