NAWOJ Reschedules Council Election In Gombe

The National Secretariat of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, has shifted its election in Gomber Council earlier slated for December 20, 2011 to the first quarter of next year to give room for proper organisation as stipulated by the constitution.

At a press conference, the national president of the union, Mrs. Asabe Baba Nahaya, told newsmen that, based on the petition received by the National Secretariat and rancour that was currently going on within the NAWOJ council in Gombe State, the union informed the State Security Service, SSS and the Nigeria Police of its decision to stop NAWOJ council election in Gombe.

Mrs. Asabe said that the National Secretariat observed that there was lack of discipline in the council, accusation of discord and lies against stakeholders thereby misleading the council.

She said that as National President of the union and indigene of Gombe State, “I must know about what is going on in NAWOJ. Unfortunately, the Gombe council has refused to allow the office of the NAWOJ President to know about what is going on in the state council. They connived with the zonal National Vice President of the union to conduct its election.”?

She said that, for that reason, the National Secretariat decided to suspend the electoral/credential committee with immediate effect.?
