Detained Enugu Labour Leader Regains Freedom

A Magistrates’ Court in Enugu, yesterday, granted bail to the Enugu Labour leader, Mr Ozoeze Festus who was arrested and detained last week for allegedly attempting to breach peace.

Uzoeze was arraigned before the court on a two-count charge bordering on misdemeanor and breach of peace.

He was charged alongside two others now at large.

“That you, Ozoeze Festus ‘m’ and others now at large on the 10th of January, 2012, at about 1030hrs at the Enugu State Secretariat premises in Enugu North Magistraterial District did conspire among yourselves to commit misdemeanour to wit; conduct likely to cause the breach of peace and thereby committed an offence and punishable under section 496(a) of the criminal code cap 30 Vol . 11 laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004”.

“That you , Ozoeze Festus ‘m’ and others now at large on the 10th day of January , 2012 , at about 1030hrs at the Enugu State Secretariat premises in Enugu North Magisterial District conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of the peace by pursuing people out from their offices while performing their lawful duties and thereby committed an offence and punishable under section 247 (d) of the criminal code cap 30 vol. 11 laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004”, the charges read.

After Ozoeze pleaded not guilty to the charges, his counsel, Okolagbu Njoku, prayed the court to grant him bail.?

Magistrate Mba, after listening to the arguments of Okolagbu, granted Ozoeze bail and adjourned till February 13, this year.
