Again, Boko Haram Attacks Kano, Gunmen Kill 15 In Katsina

Members of the dreaded Islamic sect the Boko Haram yesterday launched a fresh attack on the Mandawari police station in Kano, scaring residents of the area with sporadic gunshots. An eye witness told Leadership WEEKEND that the suspects stormed the area and in a large group and started shouting “Allahu Akbar”, meaning Allah is Great before firing the first shot to scare people away apparently to ward off any resistance and headed to the premises to attack the policemen, the eye witness said.

As the attack continued, a reinforcement of security men was sent to man the area and bring normalcy. At the time of filing this there were no reports of deaths.???

A large group of suspected armed robbers numbering over 30 have attacked traders in Batsri border town of Katsina state killing over 15 persons and injuring several others on Thursday morning.

Reliable sources told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND? that the traders, most of whom are indigenes of Birnin Magaji local government area of Zamfara state were travelling to attend a market session in Batsari town of Katsina state when the hoodlums suddenly appeared from a bush, heavily armed with dangerous rifles and started shooting the traders killing 15 of them and later setting the bodies ablaze.

One of the survivors of the attack Malama Yargado from Birnin Magaji local government area of Zamfara state`, who lost a 7-year old child Ni’ima to the attack narrated to LEADERSHIP that on reaching Rugu forest, after Shenshema village of Birnin Magaji local government of Zamfara state some people numbering about 30 came out from nowhere wearing a greenish uniform “and started shooting at us”, adding that “in the ordeal they shot my little daughter who later died on my laps,” she said amidst sobs.

“Malama Yargado further explained that the bandits spared my life on condition that I should go and tell the emir of Birnin Magaji and the leader of the vigilant group, Dankura Shamushalle, that they would still come for another major attack as a reprisal against an earlier insurgence by the members of the vigilante who organized from the village under the leadership of one in which several of their members were killed.”
