Reps Express Concern Over Abuse Of Expatriate Quota

Members of the House of Representatives have expressed concern over the abuse of the expatriate quota by foreign multinationals operating in the country.

Hon. Essien Ekpenyong Ayi (PDP, Akwa Ibom State), in a motion raised at the floor of the House, argued that the Nigerian Immigration Act of 1963, 1972 and 1990, Cap. 171 as amended conferred on the Nigerian Investment promotion council powers to grant expatriate quota to companies seeking to employ expatriates in Nigeria.

Essien raised an alarm over the recent figures published by the National Bureau of Statistics which put the unemployment rate at 21.7 percent translating to 32.5million unemployed Nigerians.
