Road Accidents: 52 Persons Die In Anambra – FRSC

A total of 52 persons died in road accidents between January and June in Anambra state, the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr Hyginus Omeje has said.

Omeje told newsmen in Awka on Monday that 354 motorists and travellers were involved in the accidents out of whom 302 were seriously injured.

He blamed the accidents on the violation of traffic rules and regulations by motorists and other road users.

According to him, the command would not relent in its sensitisation and campaign efforts till road users imbibed good road culture.

“We may not get immediate result in trying to change the negative attitude of motorists toward traffic rules and regulations, we will not relent.

“The fact that we still have cases of road crashes means that we must continue to sensitise road users until we win the war against contravention of traffic laws,” he said.

The commander expressed regret that motorists and motorcyclists had yet to realise that the use of seat-belts and crash helmets was for their safety. (NAN)
