Bus Driver Arraigned For Blackberry, Nokia Phone Theft

The Police on Wednesday arraigned a commercial bus driver, Hamidu Abubakar, 25, before the Somolu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing N42, 000 cash and a Blackberry and Nokia handset.

The accused, who claimed to be residing at Onipanu area of Lagos, is facing two counts of stealing and damage before Magistrate Titus Abolariwa.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, told the court that the accused allegedly stole the phones belonging to Mrs Chinemerem Anomah of No. 61, Adebayo St. Bariga, Lagos.

Adegoke said that the defendant damaged Anomah’s window valued at N14,000 in the course of committing the alleged crimes.

He said that Abubakar was nabbed on March 2 at Anomah’s house, where he attempted to commit the alleged theft.

“The defendant systematically broke the complainant’s aluminium glass window and was caught by Anomah’s neighbours after he had committed the charges against him,“ he said.

He said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 278 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2003.

The magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till April 18 for trial. (NAN)
