NPA Apologises To Police Over Damage To Gunboats

Mr Lawrence Alabi, the Port? Manager, Rivers Port Complex, Port Harcourt, Rivers, on Wednesday apologised to the Rivers State Police Command over the damage to three of its gunboats.

Alabi told reporters in Port Harcourt that the management of the port had begun investigations into the incident.

He confirmed that a vessel cleared by NPA sunk three gunboats belonging to the police and damaged other vessels at Berth 8, Abonnema Wharf, Port Harcourt.

He, however, said that no life was lost.

“We sympathise with the police authorities about what happened. We are very saddened about it.

“The matter is being investigated and we have already swung into action. We have some preliminary reports about the vessel,” he said.

Alabi said that the investigation into the matter was to forestall a recurrence.?

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Ben Ugwuegbulam, told newsmen on Monday that an accident occurred at one of the berths, causing damage to police gunboats.
