VP’s Wife Hails FG Over HIV Prevention

Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Amina Sambo, who is also the founder of I-Care Women and Youth Empowerment Initiative, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan over his timely response to HIV/AIDS’ cure and prevention in the country.

Hajiya Sambo, in an interview with our correspondent in the United States of America, also praised the first lady, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan for the support she was giving the federal government towards the eradication of the disease.

She further praised Dame Jonathan for her efforts to ensure that women were adequately reckoned with in the country.

On the stigmatisation HIV patients are subjected to, she said, “under I-Care Women and Youth Empowerment Initiative, we are doing our best to see that stigmatisation is no more with those affected. Stigmatisation is even worse than the disease itself which is due to the ignorance of people . They think everybody with HIV is condemned to death. We are doing our best to teach people on how to avoid stigmatisation”

In a related interview, a former first lady of Kogi State, Chief Aisha Audu-Emeje told our Correspondent that the federal government should do everything to combat the issue of stigmatisation that has really affected people living with HIV.
