Lagos Police Investigate Death Of 3 Persons In A Well

The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday said it had begun investigation into the death of three people in a well in Ajegunle, a Lagos suburb.

Mr Joseph Jaiyeoba, the command spokesperson, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Jaiyeoba said the deceased were Malam Ishiu, Momoh Jare and Abdulmalik Zuberu.

He said that two people had been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to him, police in the Tolu Road Divisional Police Station, Ajegunle, got information at about 11.30 a.m. on March 14 that three people had died in a well in a house at No. 69, Fasasi St., Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle.

Jaiyeoba explained that the victims, who lived opposite the house, usually fetched water from the well.

“The police were told that two persons initially fell into the well, while fetching water and got drowned. Another person, who attempted to rescue them also fell into the well, as the rope he was using cut midway.

“Some of the youths in the area began a violent protest and started stoning the police and the fire servicemen that went there and burnt two vehicles. Two of the protesters have been arrested,” Jaiyeoba said.

The police spokesperson said that the remains of the deceased were later removed from the well and deposited at the mortuary of the Isolo General Hospital.

He said peace had return to the area following a meeting between the police and the Hausa community, while the deceased had been buried.
