The Director-General, Niger state Disaster Management Agency, Mohammed Shaba, has said that the state government has received the N25m donated to the Madalla bomb blast victims by the Central Bank of Nigeria as well as the N400m donated to flood victims in the state by the Federal Government.
Shaba told newsmen at Government House,? Minna, yesterday that the donations from the CBN was received? and was passing through governmental processes for a mandate that would enable the agency decide on the modality for disbursing the fund to the affected victims of the bombblast.
He assured that before the end of the week, all documentations would have been completed and the mandate on who are to receive the donation would be identified before the disbursement.
According to him, the delay in the release of the money to the victims was as a result of the desire of the government to have clear mandate to make sure that the CBN donation was given to those it was meant for.
The director-general said that beside the donations from the CBN and the Federal Government, the state government had on its own released N150m which had been given to the affected victims.
On the flood victims, he said the delay was due to the rise in the number of local governments which initially was 16 but later increased to 20, thus increasing the number of victims.
The Director General said the board of the agency would meet on Tuesday to ratify the recommendations before a meeting of all the affected local government chairmen to review the modalities of disbursement.
He said beside the money? the federal government has released assorted grains of 430metric tonnes of Maize, 510 metric tonnes of Sorghum and 360metric tonnes of Millet which were sent to 18 redemption centres by the federal Ministry of agriculture.??
The Director General said the state government was delighted by the gesture of the federal government and the CBN as well as other well meaning individuals who contributed to promptly assisted to mitigate the situation.
