Shema’s Supporters, Opposition Trade Words Over Governance

The deputy minority leader in the Katsina State House of Assembly and the member representing Funtua Local Government Area Constituency, Hon. Rabiu Idris Funtua of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has challenged the state government over the provision of good governance and prudent management of the state’s resources.

Hon. Idris, who spoke exclusively to LEADERSHIP on phone, said it was unfortunate that the executive arm of government had pocketed the PDP-dominated state legislature; hence it was now an appendage of the executive. He said that it was the state of affairs in the state, occasioned by the inaction and ineptitude of the executive, which made him to voice out the plight of the ordinary people of the state to a private radio station in a recent interview, which had elicited strong reactions from the governor’s supporters.

Hon. Idris said: “I just made some comments about the expectations of the people of Katsina State as regards good governance and judicious spending of public fund.
Thereafter, all hell was let loose and all kinds of attacks are being coordinated against my person, at the instance of the governor, by some ignorant PDP members who chose to defend the governor blindly.

“A lot of people have called me names through phone calls while others went to radio stations to say all sorts of things. I have nothing personal against governor Shema, he is a leader of the people, that is why I demand accountability from him as a people’s representative that I am too,” Idris added.
