CP Says Police Detectives Trail Bombers Before Explosion

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Mr Jinjiri Abubakar, says the two vehicles carrying the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) were heading toward Kakuri to Sabon Tasha.

He told newsmen on Sunday in Kaduna that the two vehicles were pursued by detectives when suddenly one of the vehicles hit the other, thereby causing a serious explosion at Junction Road by Sardauna Crescent in Kaduna.

“The explosion was massive which resulted to the death of the bombers and several persons yet to be identified.

“The injured victims mostly were passers-by,’’ Abubakar said.

Abubakar said that the police and other security agencies were investigating the cause of the explosion and possibly those suspected to be involved in the incident.

“Final report will be made public.

“I want to appeal to the people of the state to remain calm and to go about their lawful business and to report any suspicious movement to security agents for further investigation and action.”

Meanwhile, two survivors, who spoke to NANshortly after the explosion said “the attacker is heading to an unknown destination when the IED exploded“.?

AugustineVincent, 25, who had burns all over his body said the bomber were on high speed which suggest that they were heading for a destination not too close to where the device exploded.?

Vincent told newsmen that he was on a motorbike heading to church for Easter service close to where the bomb exploded.

He said he only heard big blast and smoke covered the whole area, adding that his motorcycle got shattered due to the impact of the explosion.?

He said he saw the car carrying the explosive but could not identify its number and occupants.?

Another victim, Mr Aaron Awaje, 31, said the commercial motorcycle he boarded was close the exploded car, adding that its operator was killed by the explosion.?

“The Okada man died instantly, but I cannot say exactly what happened from then because I was swooned and regained conscious at the hospital.”

The bombers drove in a Honda Accord 2005 model passed through Ahmadu Bello way heading toward Stadium Roundabout Kaduna.?

An official of Red Cross gave the car's registration number as BB 111 DKA, adding that it exploded with two bombers on board.

The Director-General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Sani Sidi had visited the scene and promised to foot the bills of all injured persons.

?Sidi visited some of the hospitals to sympathise with the families of injured persons.
