The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has distanced itself from the candidature of Ismaila Ammani Maizare as the national deputy president of the union.
In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP and signed by the chairman of the council, Abduljalal Haruna, and the secretary, Adamu Gammo, the union said it ‘has condemned the move and urged members to distance themselves from it’.
The statement said the union had already, at its congress held last week, resolved to support the candidature of Mohammed Garba to retain his seat as the president of the union in its forthcoming election.
Similarly, the North West zonal office of the NUJ has also distanced itself from the move since northern states’ councils had earlier backed?? Garba to retain his position.
