Bayelsa: Sylva’s Probe Indictment Is Contrived, Group Alleges

The Timi Alaibe committee, constituted by the administration of Governor Seriake Dickson to probe the activities of former Governor Timipre Sylva has been described as contrived.

Denouncing what it describes as a desperate attempt to hound Chief Timipre Sylva and discredit his laudable achievements as Governor of the State, the group, Bayelsans United for Democracy, speaking through its coordinator and general secretary, Hon. Henry Sekibo and Chief Jonathan Emesiagha, said it was convinced that the exercise was a mere witch-hunt.

“The contrived findings of the Timi Alaibe committee and its orchestration are all a proof of this as it is aimed at rendering the return of Timipre Sylva to power implausible and unwarranted, in the eyes of Bayelsans.

This desperate campaign of calumny against Governor Sylva also harbours the potential of trivialising the case the former governor has before the Supreme Court and weaken its value both in the perception of the people and that of the esteemed judges.

“A responsible government that is aware that it has a date with history on April 20 should have been more circumspect than carrying on as if the yet-to-be delivered judgment is already in its favour.

But here we have a government that is not prepared to leave even the elbowroom in case the experience of Chibuike Amaechi who was returned by the Supreme Court repeats itself in Bayelsa State.
