Kaduna State governor, Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, has tasked religious leaders in the state to work together with a view to unmasking those fueling crisis while pretending to be clerics.
Yakowa stated this while speaking at a one-day seminar organised for imams and pastors in the state by Interfaith Council of Muslim and Christian Women’s Associations in Kaduna.
Represented by his special adviser on Christian Matters, Reverend Joseph Hayab, Governor Yakowa said that Nigeria was faced with challenges of evil people, noting that women are always at the receiving end because they end up losing their husbands and children.?
“Such people who pretend to be clerics and yet engage in evil deeds should be exposed,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Yakowa’s special adviser on Islamic and Hajj Matters, Mallam Halliru Abdullahi Maraya stated that the act of terrorism in the country clearly showed that people do not know the teachings and tenets of their religions.
He said that unemployment was not the cause of sectarian crisis in the North as there are many Muslims and non-Muslims in the South- West who are unemployed, yet they never engage in sectarian crisis.
“There was never a time Prophet Muhammed instructed his companions to kill one for not practising Islam, neither did he ever ask them to destroy a church,” he added.
He advised pastors and imams to continually preach the true teachings of their religions instead of fanning the embers of discord.
