13 Persons Perish, 43 Others Injured In Auto Crash In Katsina

Thirteen persons have been confirmed dead while 43 others were injured in a ghastly motor accident at Kwanar Gwanti village in Mai’adua Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The FRSC Unit Commander in Daura, Alhaji Abdullahi Galadi, said on Monday that the accident was caused by over-speeding.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt in the village that the accident occurred at about 7:30 pm on Sunday.

An eye witness said the driver of the trailer registered Katsina XA 139 BRE, loaded with cows and 50 passengers, lost control while negotiating a sharp bend, causing the vehicle to ram into a tree before it somersaulted.

The vehicle was on its way to Lagos after loading the victims at the Mai’adua border market.

Galadi confirmed that 13 passengers died instantly, while the 43 injured persons and the corpses were evacuated to Katsina and Mashi General Hospital as well as the Federal Medical Centre in Katsina.

The road marshal expressed concern over the attitude of trailer drivers who were in the habit of carrying human beings and cows in the same vehicle.

He urged the drivers to always abide by the traffic rules and regulations to ensure safety of lives. (NAN)
