Police Arrest Footballers For Violating Sanitation Laws

?Six footballers were on Saturday arrested by the police for failing to observe the Environmental Sanitation?stipulated by the Lagos State Government.

The exercise is observed on the last Saturday of every month and it begins from 7 a.m.?till 10 a.m.

The police made the arrest at a football field located at the Agboola Adebayo way, Jakande, Okokomaiko.

The police who were on patrol in the area at about 8.00 a.m.,?caught?six of the footballers who were training, while the others escaped.

Mr Ade Olarenwaju, a Police officer, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the observance of the exercise was mandatory for all residents, irrespective of status or location.

“During the sanitation, every individual is expected to clean up his surroundings and remain in his or her premises till the exercise is over.’’

Those arrested?were John Ogbeide (23), Emmanuel Adebayo (26), Olufemi Awoyifa (21), Timothy Chikezie (25), Tunde Kayode (22) and Nonso Ezeaputa (22).

A NAN correspondent who witnessed?the arrest reported that the footballers were taken to the Okoko police station.

Several shops were closed in the area as people?cleaned their surroundings and gutters in compliance with the Environmental Sanitation Laws. (NAN)
