Umeh Urges Police To Prosecute Members Of Anambra Task Force

?

?Chief Victor Umeh, the National Chairman of APGA, has called for ?the arrest and prosecution ?of?members of Anambra Task Force on Decongestion of Roads, Parks and Markets.

Umehtold newsmen?at Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha, on Saturday ?that the APGA-led government in Anambra was dissociating itself from the action of the task force at Nnewi Main Market on Friday.

The ?task-force, popularly known as Ndi-Mpiawa-Azu, ?clashed? with?traders in Nnewi Main Market during which three persons allegedly died.

“I want the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, to order the immediate arrest and prosecution of the members of Ndi-Mpiwazu.

“He should also go after and arrest Chief Sylvester Nwabu-Alor, the Special Adviser to Gov. Peter Obi on Parks and Markets, who is the coordinator of the group.’’

The chairman said the police should also arrest “Onuorah Ikunso, who is the commander of these boys in-order to answer for the atrocities against the good people of Anambra.

?“How can we explain the dastardly act of going to fight with traders inside their market and killing three of them. This radicalism must stop in Anambra.’’

Umeh said the group had for long been giving the state and the party in the state a bad name.

“During our last campaign in Fegge, Onitsha; one old woman met me and told me she loved our party and its programmes but does not like how little boys in the guise of task-force flog old people.

“We must say no to unnecessary harassment of our people, who go out to look for their daily bread,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Nwabu-Alor said Umeh was “only playing politics’’.

He said the task force was sent to close a heavy duty vehicles motor park, near the market, which operators had not paid the park levy for more than six months, on Wednesday.

Nwabu-Alor said that when the operators paid, the task force went to re-open the park on Friday but were attacked by some armed hoodlums.

“The hoodlums, who we are yet to ascertain their sponsors and mission killed two of the task force members and another is in critical condition.

“It looks ridiculous for anybody to call for the arrest of the task force members that have been wounded and maimed.’’??\(NAN)
