The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State has blamed the rising rate of insecurity in the country on lack of proper education, food, and unemployment.

Chairman of NLC in the state, Comrade Chris Oruge, said this while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt in preparation for the 2012 Workers’ Day which has the theme ‘Right to Work, Food, Education; Panacea to Insecurity’.

He said workers in Rivers State would use the opportunity of the 2012 Workers’ Day to demand for their outstanding arrears of the minimum wage and other benefits due them.

Advising workers in the state to conduct themselves very well during the celebration, the labour leader urged them to improve on productivity in their respective places of work.

He commended the Governor of Rivers State,? Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his efforts to improve the welfare of workers in the state.
