Pharmacist Says Importers Of Sub-Standard Drugs Are Inhuman

A Don, Prof. Peter Nwangwu, says those who import substandard drugs into Nigeria are wicked, inhuman and desperate to acquire wealth at all cost.

Nwanwgu, who lectures at the University of Nigeria (UNN) Nsukka, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that some pharmacists were not genuine and should be fished out.

“A properly trained pharmacist will never allow such problems of adulterated drugs to exist in his shop,'' said Nwangwu, a pharmacologist.

The don noted that the country lacked enough pharmacies in the cities and in rural areas, resulting in many parading as pharmacists.

“If we have 10 per cent of the number of required and well trained pharmacists in the country, maybe we might not have all these fakes.''

“Rural areas should be provided with professional pharmacists. Government must find ways to improve the condition of life in such rural areas,'' he said.

Nwangwu said that the moral component of education in Nigeria must be increased in all fields at all levels.

“Moral-based education in Nigeria is critical and crucial for proper and true transformation in a manner that will produce responsible and sensitive men and women of integrity with strong moral fibre to help the country grow,'' he added.
