Let’s Work Together, Sultan Tells Religious Leaders

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Jama’atuNasril Islam (JNI), Muhammad Sa’adAbubakar III yesterday said lack of accommodation, welfare and understanding among the people were the main problems facing Nigeria today and said there were the root of the high level of insecurity.

He said the problems were responsible for rising insecurity in Nigeria.

The Sultan made the assertion at the inauguration of the multi-million naira Central mosque built by Governor Gabriel Suswam in Wadata, Makurdi the Benue state capital.

“In Nigeria of today, our two main problems are lack of accommodation, welfare and understanding among the people. The two major religions are not at war with each other. What we need to do is to come together as a people and ensure the rapid growth of the country. It is when we understand each other the better for us in this country,” Sultan said.

He noted that there was no relevance for Christians and Muslims to be in persistent conflict, as the two religious groups in the country were created by Allah.

“There is understanding among us the leaders. We crack jokes and discuss amicably but we must respect one another; we must respect our leaders; we must respect government that is put in place because it is only God that put in place leadership,” Sultan Abubakar stated.

Commenting on the incessant crises between the Fulani herdsman and the Tiv farmers in Benue state, the Sultan said the two tribes were like brothers and that if there was any misunderstanding between them, it was better to resolve the issue on a round table than killing and burning houses.

“On the Tiv/Fulani killings, we are to hold a meeting to look at the problems and find ways of resolving them. The killings must stop. Whatever that is the problem, we must put heads together and continue to bring peace, not only to Benue or Nasarawa but to the entire country,” He said.

He further commended Governor Suswam for his kind disposition of peace at all times, and stated that the building of a befitting place of worship for the Muslims in the state was a clear demonstration of a good and God fearing leader, who he said has integrity and concern for the welfare of the people.
