11,512 Ex-Militants Have Been Enrolled In Schools

The Presidential Amnesty Office on Tuesday in Abuja said about 11,512 ex-militants granted amnesty by the Federal Government have been enrolled in universities and training centres within and outside the country.

Mr Daniel Alabrah, the Head of Media of the office told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the figure was out of the 26,358 ex militants who were granted the amnesty.

He said the remaining 14,846 ex-militants were yet to be deployed for training.

Alabrah stated that some of the beneficiaries were undergoing formal education in four universities in the country while others had been admitted for various courses in 19 universities located in nine countries.

According to him, some of them are studying electrical, computer and petrol-chemical engineering, radio information, mass communication, biological sciences, physics, chemistry and Mathematics.

“Some are being trained in 27 onshore centres in the country and 27 offshore centres in 20 countries across four continents such as Africa, Asia, Europe and America.

“They are undergoing vocational training in pipeline welding, crane operation, electrical work, automobile installation and others,’’ Alabrah said.

The spokesman said the Federal Government had packaged other programmes for the ex-militants to channel their energy into positive ventures.

“The amnesty programme has brought peace and stability to the country’s economy thereby increasing the daily crude oil export’’, he said.
