Abuja Bomb Explosion: Eye Witnesses Recount Ordeal

The bomb explosion that rocked high-brow Wuse II last Friday night has left on its trail unpleasant experiences. Though no life was lost, but the wind shields of vehicles parked at the vicinity of the incident were shattered.

Also, buildings housing corporate outfits within the area of the incident had their windows shattered due to the impact from the explosion.

A security guard with Proton Security who declined to give his name recounted to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY how the incident happened; ‘‘I was at the gate securing the plaza which houses Dulux Colour Centre, Toyota Motors, Union Bank etc and different people were passing around and cars were parked everywhere as usual.

However, there was this jeep that the occupant refused coming down. He kept talking on phone and remained seated there in the vehicle. He became a suspect because his car was parked there since 6.00pm in the evening and he remained seated there until 10.00pm. We became apprehensive but could not ask him to leave the scene.

The Krystal lounge opposite us is where he watched with keen interest and this made us to lock up our gate.’’ The security guard said in the routine of securing his complex he normally walks around and as he was doing that, he heard an explosion and before he could turn, he was hit by the root of a tree. He fell flat on the ground, hitting his head on a staircase

In a similar vein, the Bank Manager of Union Bank Wuse II, Abdusallam Abubakar, whose bank windows were shattered stated that, ‘‘This is one explosion too many. It happened at an unofficial hour and I believe the target is not the bank or her customers.

However, I learnt from my workers of a suspicious Toyota Cypria car which was parked very close to our office. All I can say is that the bank was not the target and not our customers.’’
