Sports Fosters Unity Among Telecom Operators

Telecommunication operators in Nigeria will step out of their intense commercial rivalry to embrace each other in another competitive atmosphere filled with passion, fun and thrilling excitement of sports at the University of Lagos Sports Complex from July 8 to August 5. This is happening on the platform of the Nigeria Telecommunications Games powered by foremost corporate games organisers in the country, MediaVision Limited.

Mrs Damola Fadoujutimi, the Project Manager for MediaVision Limited disclosed that the 2012 edition of the Nigeria Telecommunications Games (NTG) has been planned with all the trappings of a mini corporate Olympics as there will be competition in the traditional football event as well as in Chess, Scrabble, Athletics and Table Tennis. “MediaVision is committed to making this edition a reference point in corporate sports events and being the year of the Olympics, we are creating an Olympic atmosphere for both the participants and the fans with a number of side attractions that will include live music, dance and fans’ football competition to provide an opportunity for supporters of the very popular English football teams to meet each other,” Fadoujutimi disclosed.

She said that in a bid to ensure high standards and quality of the matches, MediaVision had in the pre-season period of over two months organized inter-industry friendly matches for the teams. “We have in the last few months primed the teams to deliver quality performances by organizing inter-industry friendly matches between telecoms and banks, between Insurance and FMCG and vice versa. This way, most of the players are match fit and properly conditioned for the rigours of the competition”, observed the Project Manager.

For Joseph Akpata, captain of MTN, the defending champions, “we are very well prepared to hold on to the trophy we won last season but it is more important that we use the platform to close ranks as industry operators towards providing Nigerians better product and services experience in the times ahead. So, for us at MTN, we will be looking forward to catching some excitement for ourselves, providing fun for those who will be watching as well as to network with our colleagues from the other companies outside the usual bustles of subscribers’ recruitment.”? French company, Alcatel-Lucent will be making her debut in the tournament this year with the teams competing in a round robbing format for points.
