Secondary schools teachers in Ogun have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the state government to recognise and inaugurate the Principal-General, Egba Division, Mr Funso Ogun.
Addressing newsmen in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the President, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Mr Tunde Folarin, alleged that Gov. Ibikunle Amosun abruptly stopped the planned inauguration of Ogun.
“Ogun had been selected by the state’s Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and was to be the Principal-General for Egba division.
“TESCOM told him to come for his inauguration by Gov. Amosun at the state secretariat on Monday, but when we got there, after waiting endlessly, we were told that it had been postponed indefinitely.
“This is not fair to a man who had invited guests from all the places to come and felicitate with him, you can imagine everybody left without telling one another.
“We hope that in the next two weeks, the government will resolve this issue raised alongside other issues pertaining to the office of the Principal-Generals,'' he said.
He said teachers in the state gave the government a two-week ultimatum to do the necessary things or risk the wrath of teachers in the state.
The ASUSS boss said it was possible that Gov. Amosun was not aware of? the “systemic marginalisation” of teachers in the state.
He called on the governor to assist teachers in the state by giving due and necessary attention to issues concerning teachers.
However, the Permanent Secretary of TESCOM, Dr Yemisi Ajibawo, said the swearing-in was postponed due to other state engagements by the governor.
?Ajibawo, who gave the assurance that the ceremony would be performed at a later date, denied that Amosun had another candidate for the position.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the office of the Principal-General is equivalent to that of the Permanent Secretary in the ministry. ?
